The Vet Project does not have a permanent address. Our home base is near Ballarat but we will be on the road providing services to regional Victoria. Working dates and hours will be variable.
Anyone! We believe everyone should be able to access our services, so there are no requirements to prove financial hardship. Please note that our set prices are the same for everyone, there are no additional discounts for concession card holders or pensioners. We will always strive to keep our prices low so that we can help as many people and pets as possible.
We offer desexing, vaccination, microchipping and flea/worm treatments for cats and kittens. Click Here to view prices.
Due to the small size of our van, we can only offer desexing surgery for small dogs and puppies under 10 kg in weight. Vaccination, microchipping, and flea/worm treatments can be added on to any desexing procedure. Click Here to view prices.
Our primary focus is on desexing in order to reduce overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do not currently offer regular health checks or consultations. However, our business is growing rapidly and we may offer these services in the future.
Our services are in high demand, therefore payment is required PRIOR to the appointment to secure a spot for surgery.
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, you must contact us via e-mail at info@thevetproject.com.au at least 24 hours before your appointment.
If you give at least 24 hours’ notice, we will hold your deposit for 14 days. If you do not reschedule your appointment within that time frame, your deposit will be forfeited.
Please note that if you reschedule your appointment, you may need to bring your animal to a different location/suburb than originally scheduled for because we move around to different locations often.
Last minute cancellations (less than 24 hours’ notice) or no shows will NOT be refunded.
A source number forms part of your pet's identifying information and is now required in the state of Victoria when implanting a microchip. If you choose to have your pet microchipped by The Vet Project, you must register for a source number BEFORE your pet's appointment with us. Only ONE source number is needed per household. Click Here to apply and pay the registration fee. Please note: we cannot implant or register a microchip for your pet if you do not provide us with a unique source number.
Our staff are all qualified, highly trained veterinarians and veterinary nurses and have extensive experience working in a variety of situations. Although smaller, The Vet Project's Mobile Desexing Unit is fully furnished with state-of-the-art equipment that is exactly the same as what you would find in a brick-and-mortar vet clinic. Your pet will be provided all of the necessary monitoring and medications for a safe, pain-free surgery. Our staff is committed to providing the highest quality of care, compassion, and respect that each pet deserves.
Absolutely. All of our patients will receive pain relief before and after their desexing procedure to ensure they recover comfortably.
Yes. Our vets are very experienced and can desex your pet if she is on heat or is in the early stages of pregnancy.
Desexing pets before they reach sexual maturity is the most ideal scenario. Believe it or not, female kittens can get pregnant from as early as 16 weeks of age!! Our vets are trained to safely and efficiently desex young dogs and cats from approximately 8 weeks of age. To reduce anaesthetic risks, we require kittens to weigh at least 800 grams and puppies to weigh at least 1 kg.
Due to the mobile nature of our services and variable working hours, we are unable to provide post-operative care should your pet need it. Complications after desexing are rare but can occur, and should be taken seriously. If you have any concerns about your pet after surgery, please contact your local veterinary clinic during business hours or a veterinary emergency centre after hours.
