The Vet Project's founders have a combined 30+ years of experience in the animal welfare industry. The idea of providing low cost and accessible vet care was born from the fact that there has been no significant reduction in the numbers of cats and kittens impounded and subsequently euthanised in shelters in Victoria. In addition, the number of surrendered dogs and cats continues to increase, placing immense pressure on shelters and rescues to find homes for these animals.
We hope to develop partnerships to actively support the community and local government to reduce unwanted pet populations and provide better outcomes for pets everywhere.
Remove barriers to veterinary care so that people from all walks of life can enjoy the companionship and mental health benefits of pet ownership. We want to see a world where every cat and dog has a loving home and unnecessary euthanasia is a thing of the past!
Support regional communities and strengthen the human-animal bond by providing accessible and affordable veterinary care aimed at improving companion animal welfare and reducing pet overpopulation.
We think vets are superheroes! In fact, one of our founders is a superhero vet with years of experience in general practice, emergency medicine, and shelter medicine. Dr Christina has seen far too much unnecessary heartache over the years and wants to do something about it. Although TVP can only provide basic services, the hope is that by doing so the overall burden on the animal welfare and veterinary industries can be reduced and pets can enjoy longer, healthier lives with their owners.
Dr Christina also has a business management background and understands that some vets may be concerned about a new, low-cost veterinary option in their area. The Vet Project aims to provide basic veterinary care to people that are facing significant barriers such as geographical location, lack of transportation, disability, or financial hardship. Unfortunately, these barriers make it difficult for some owners to even set foot into a traditional veterinary practice and their pets suffer for it. In addition, when they do seek out care and cannot afford it, the mental health of everyone suffers - pet owners, vets, and clinic staff alike. This is a no-win situation that challenges us to work toward solutions together with creativity and compassion.
The Vet Project is not designed to be a fully functioning veterinary clinic, therefore cannot provide services for sick animals. Our sincere hope is that we can develop partnerships with local vets to support people when their pet needs something that is outside of TVP's scope.
